Mediums I teach
Acrylic, watercolour, gouache, sculpting (polymer & paper clay), textiles (embroidery, patch making, lino printing, painting on fabric), bookbinding, ink, and graphite. Art supplies included at my studio, all you need to bring is yourself.
What to expect with an in-person class?
If you schedule in-person lessons, they will be in my private studio. Located at 1660 McLauchlin Dr. Courtenay BC, Canada.
(Photos of the studio coming soon)
I take immense care in the presentation of my studio. I want it to be an atmosphere I would have loved to have taken lessons in as a child. A place that felt like home.
There is a lovely little cat named Flower who lives here and mainly stays outdoors away from visitors. But if you have a cat allergy please inform me. I frequently try to clean my studio to eliminate dust and potential allergens, as well as disinfect the area before another student arrives.
Our first lesson will include a short consultation to help tailor our future classes to your desires as a student.
If you wish, I also provide a 2-4 lesson trial period to see if I’m a good match for your needs.
I believe in the therapeutic nature of art, and want my space to be that for you if that is something you wish. I have a plethora of soothing crafts to choose from. Paint inside, paint in my backyard, enjoy a cup of tea, read my selection of art books and become inspired, let your mind and heart play in a place without judgement, my only intent is to nurture your passions.
Or if you are a beginner to art and want to be taught the fundamentals, help discover your style, be provided with a variety of challenges to help expand your knowledge and refine your skill. My place is for you as well.
Why I desire to teach
As a queer, trans non-binary artist, I believe in contributing to my local community however I may be of service. Where I live, private openly LGBT2QIA+ creative teachers are not common.
It is something I deem highly valuable, and an excellent safe space for LGBT2QIA+ youth to help express and shine their authentic self.
Creative expression is what connects us human to human. Art is by the people, for the people. For many, art can help express what words cannot, something young children, teenagers, and adults may struggle with. Everyone should have a place to healthily let out those aspects of their internal mind, and to be validated.
What I’m comfortable and uncomfortable teaching
Comfortable:
All art styles from realism to surrealism, western comic style to Japanese manga, nothing is off the table.
NSFW (Not safe for work, which refers to partial and full nudity, as well as erotica.)
Dark art, gruesome horror, edgy punk.
To give you the space to explore your sexuality and or gender identity through art.
Uncomfortable:
Any desire of creating art promoting hate, violence, discrimination, racism, and appropriation of other cultures. I will not perpetuate such damaging ideologies and harmful beliefs.
Online lessons
I cannot provide art supplies to online lessons, so if there is art teaching involved, must work with what supplies you have on hand.
Online lessons are via zoom, and also include private instructional videos if requested by the student.
If you are a young teenager going through art in school, as a prior art student I am more than willing to provide any assistance with your work.
